Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® Orlando, locally presented by Darden Restaurants, returns Aug. 10 to Orlando World Center Marriott showcasing the talent and creativity of Central Florida’s leading chefs and restaurants in a culinary fundraising event to end childhood hunger.

Orlando World Center Marriott will host the 24 appetizers, entrees and desserts from 35 of Central Florida’s finest chefs, restaurants and culinary organizations complemented by silent and live auctions and entertainment. Some of this year’s participating chefs and restaurants include Cress Restaurant, Eddie V’s, K Restaurant and Wine Bar, Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano, Marlow’s Tavern, Orlando World Center Marriott, Red Wing Restaurant, The Capital Grille, Sushi House Orlando, The Ravenous Pig, Cask & Larder and 4Rivers Smokehouse.

The highlight of the event will be the annual Creekstone Farms Chef Throwdown, where two chefs will go head to head in a cooking challenge to determine whose culinary creation reigns supreme. Celebrity judges WFTV anchor Bob Opsahl, Scott Joseph from Scott Joseph’s Orlando Restaurant Guide and Honorary Chair Lucille O’Neal will decide which chef deserves the chef throwdown title and the honor of signing a generous check to Taste of the Nation Orlando from Creekstone Farms, one of the nation’s leading premium beef producers.

O’Neal, mother of NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal, serves as honorary chair of this year’s event for the first time. The longtime philanthropist, celebrated author and motivational speaker has a long history of addressing and supporting childhood nutrition and hunger relief efforts. “As a mother of four adult children and 14 grandchildren, I have seen firsthand over the years the difference proper nutrition makes in the lives of our children,” O’Neal said. “Eating the right foods on a daily basis and receiving proper nourishment really helps to provide a foundation on which children can thrive physically and mentally. It is our obligation to ensure that we provide necessary essentials that ultimately will help their minds and bodies grow and reach their full potential."

Tickets for the event are $150, and all proceeds benefit Share Our Strength's efforts to erradicate childhood hunger.  Local beneficiares include Coailtion for the Homeless of Central Florida and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

This year’s silent auction, presented by Neiman Marcus, invites guests to bid on luxury apparel and accessories, stays at upscale hotels, gift cards to the area’s top restaurants, rounds of golf on area courses, and tickets to coveted sporting events. Featured auction items include:
